Gunjabong-Seonghwangje (Ritual)

It is believed Gunjabong-Seonghwangje (ritual), which has been recorded in “Dongguk-yeoji-seungram”a geometry and customized book, written in early Chosun dynasty, this is a folk religion that had started as early as in Koryeo dynasty. It is a town festival where the residents prayed for their safety and health toward the last king of Silla, Kyungsun (Seonghwang god) and his wife Ahn.
Even now days, a Gunjabong-Seonghwangje(ritual) is held at Gunjabong (Peak) on October 3, lunar calendar, each year. ‘Seonangdae’, a 10meter long bamboo tree decorated with five different colored stripes, in particular, is a unique feature and tradition of Gunjabong-Seonghwangje (Ritual).
